Herpes simples (HSV-1/2, HHV-1/2)

Herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 (HSV-1, HSV-2), members of the herpes virus family, are double stranded DNA viruses causing several diseases in humans like cold sores, or encephalitis.

The LightMix® Kit is based on the amplification of a fragment of the polymerase gene, containing a variable region which is used for the differentiation between HSV-1 and 2. In the melting curve analyis the higher melting peak represents HSV-1. The CP values are nearly not affected by the differences in the melting temperature hence reporting very similair CP values for viral DNA from either HSV-1 or 2.
